About Castor Oil
Castor oil is a thick, odourless oil, made from the seeds of the castor plant.
Used for centuries throughout the world as a remedy for detoxification, skin conditions, infertility, menstruation and general health.
Often women only know of castor oil as natural method for the induction of labour, where consuming it often brings on contractions.
Castor oil is antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory and is rich in essential fatty acids (Vitamin E and Omega 6 and 9).
Benefits of Castor Oil Packs
Castor oil packs have many health benefits, including for fertility, menstrual imbalances and womb health.
They help to increase both blood flow, and lymphatic circulation, aiding detoxification and supporting immunity.
Castor oil packs also assist with alleviating pain, and encourage busy women to stop, and rest, when included as part of a regular self care practice.
Here are some of the conditions castor oil packs can assist with:

How to make & use a castor oil pack
Now you can grab a castor oil pack from us here, or you can put one together yourself.
You will need:
- A bottle of organic castor oil (warmed)
- A piece of cloth (approx 50 cm), large enough to go over your belly or sacrum (folded in half). Wool, flannel or brushed organic cotton are best.
- A heat pack or hot water bottle
- 1 x towel
- A piece of PU waterproof material fabric, or another small towel.
Warm the castor oil (you can do this by placing the oil bottle into a cup of boiled water, a saucepan of boiled water, or an oil warmer). You just want it warmed to a temperature that is comfortable on the skin. You can also use the oil at room temperature too.
Warm your heat pack, or the water to fill your hot water bottle.
Saturate the fabric with the oil, and then fold in half (to approximately the size of your lower belly or sacrum).
Place the pack onto your lower belly or sacrum. Cover with either the PU fabric, or a small towel.
Place the hot water bottle on top.
Rest sitting or lying down for minimum of 20 minutes, up to 1 hour. You might like to meditate, listen to music, a podcast, or take a nap.
When finished, remove the heat pack/hot water bottle, towel and castor oil pack. You might like to wipe over the area with a warm, damp washer or flannel where the pack was as castor oil is quite thick and heavy.
Fold, or roll the pack and place it in a jar in the fridge for next time. You can usually use the same pack for up to 30 applications.
Regular use of castor oil packs bring the most benefits. 3-4 times per week is a guide.
When not to use a castor oil pack
During menstruation if you have a heavy bleed (it can increase period flow), pregnancy, or after ovulation when trying to conceive.
Most importantly, be guided by your own intuition and experiences. You know your body than anyone else!
